The Cacophony Society is a randomly
gathered network of free spirits united
in the pursuit of experiences beyond
the pale of mainstream society. We are
creative social terrorists carving out
temporary autonomous zones within the
hidden real estate of modern culture. We
are the Baroque-costumed figures
occasionally found dancing in all-night
laundromats. We are neo-dada poets
ranting under crumbling freeways in the
early morning hours. We are plop artists
creating alien artifacts waiting to be
discovered inside the office cooler.

We are a society of reality hackers
working the late paradigm shift.

The SF Cacophony Society was "the bee in the car" that kept things interesting for 15 years. It takes a certain kind of brilliance to propose, plan and stage odd events that have this gentle sense of humor. Never political, never mean, their happenings were just plain conceptual, thought provoking and FUN, for both participants and the head-scratching spectators who encountered them.

Similar groups have tried to take their place... they would do well to examine this archive thoroughly-- not necessarily to reprise these particular events (though that would be fun with proper attribution) but to absorb the spirit of the Cacophonist mindset.
